    ANALYSIS
    [FRAGMENT ANALYSIS IN PROGRESS]

Description Small fragment with original slab edge on the lower side. A street runs top to bottom with part of a building cluster. Two tabernae flank the street, and a part of two or three larger structures are visible as well, but remain unidentified.

Identification: warehouse district near the Via Campana-Portuensis Tucci places fragments 138a-f on slab IV-8 on the right bank of the Tiber, opposite the Aventine, based on the size of the fragments and the location of the clamp holes (see Tucci 2004, fig. 1-2). This area at present houses the Ospizio Apostolico di San Michele (Tucci 2004, fig. 5-6).

Significance In this fragment no monumental buildings are represented, instead it provides a view of the lesser known structures that made up the urban fabric of Rome: commercial and possibly industrial buildings in the vicinity of the ports on the right bank of the Tiber.
